Tips Range – Stove – Oven Maintenance Tips

Broiler pan

You can purchase most ovens or ranges with a porcelain-coated steel broiler pan. It can be cleaned with a non-abrasive cleanser or you can replace the broiler pan. The Broiler Pan and Insert, which can be purchased RepairClinic.com in the parts section.

Control panel

In most ovens or ranges, you will found a glass or metal control panel, which can safely be cleaned using non-abrasive cleaners. You can use liquid degreasers or glass cleaners.

Note: Do not spray the cleaners onto the control panel’s surface directly. Instead, apply your cleaner to a damp, soft rag and then completely wipe the surface.

Cooktop

Porcelain cooktops can be cleaned with any type of non-abrasive cleanser.

Make sure to not apply the cleanser, however, directly onto the cooktop. Rather, put some cleaner on a soft, damp rag. You can then wipe the surface.

Burner drip pans (bowls)

Normally, you must replace the bowls or drip pans. These can be found either beneath the grates on a gas range or oven or underneath the heating element on an electric range or stove. Replace these every couple of years because once they are stained you can’t get them perfectly cleaned.

You can order bowls to replace your originals by going to the parts order center and searching your appliance model number. You can also buy universal bowls from the website.

Glass cooktops and windows

You should always clean glass and ceramic cooktops with products specifically made for cleaning these surfaces. For example, you can buy our Frigidaire Rangetop Cleaner.

Any glass cleaner is fine to clean your glass oven windows, but use caution to clean glass surfaces if they are hot!

Knob Care

With a wet rag and some dish detergent, you should be able to safely clean the knobs on your range or oven although you may need to buy replacement knobs if the lettering or numbers have worn away.

Light bulbs

You can replace the light bulb(s) in your range or oven by removing a glass covering or dome. A universal 40 watt appliance bulb is usually required for most interior oven lights.

Oven Maintenance

Look in the owner’s manual for directions on how to use the self-cleaning feature. This feature works heats the interior of the oven to such a high temperature that it incinerates the oven’s residue. Consult the manual provided with your purchase or contact the manufacturer for further information. However, don’t use a spray cleaner to clean the interior.

If using a non-self-cleaning oven, any oven cleaners work just fine.

Solid burner element

Some stove/ranges have heating element burners that are solid metal–there’s no coil, and the stove/range isn’t glass or ceramic. If you need us to repair your stove or oven, call us at (800) 657-0765 to schedule an appointment.
