Quick Fixes: KitchenAid Washer

KitchenAid washers are a great addition to any home. Not only do they last for years, but they do a supreme job at keeping clothes clean without any major problems. It seems like the washer gets more wear and tear than the average appliance as we do laundry almost every single day.

If your washer starts having problems as a result of regular use, here are a few tips to help you troubleshoot the problem and fix it quickly. For larger problems call us for our KitchenAid appliance repair service.

Problem #1 – My KitchenAid Washer Smells Horrible!

If you notice a strange smell when you open the empty washer, it could be caused by a couple of problems. First, check to see if there is any standing water that has become stagnant. If you notice remaining water, your washer might not be draining completely after each cycle. If there is no puddled water, it could just be some gunk that has accumulated in the crevices or moisture that has settled in for a bit too long. Start by wiping out the inside of your washer with paper towels. If you have a front loading washer, be sure to clean around the rubber seal at the door. Then put a cup of white vinegar in the empty washer and run one full wash cycle. This should effectively clean the washer and get rid of any stale odors. In the future, you might want to leave your washer door propped open for a few minutes after you are finished using it. This allows any water left to dry up so it doesn’t stink up your laundry room between loads. If none of the above works, you may have to schedule a washer repair appointment.

Problem #2 – My KitchenAid Washer’s Water Temperature Is Wrong!

One of the most common complaints about washers revolves around the water temperature. People call for professional washer repair all the time because they cold cycle isn’t cold or the hot cycle isn’t hot. This is usually a very simple fix and it almost always goes back to an installation error. Many times, people just hook the water hoses up incorrectly. If you notice the water temperature is hot when you set it to be on cold, then you probably have your water hoses on backwards. This will only take a minute to fix and you can do it yourself. Start by unplugging your KitchenAid washer. Then find the valve to turn off your water supply completely. Now reverse the water hoses and hook everything back up. Turn the water back on, plug up the washer, and give it a try. This should correct the temperature problem immediately.

If your water hoses were hooked up correctly, there could be another issue. Have you been running the washer for hours trying to catch up on laundry? If so, you could have drained your hot water heater’s supply, causing your washer’s water supply to remain cold no matter what setting you select. If this is the case, give your washer a little break and try again in about an hour. Your hot water should be working again and you will be back to your laundry routine.
